Why Is My Cat Urinating Everywhere?

If you own a cat and it’s suddenly become a pest in your home, such as would be the case if it began urinating everywhere, don’t throw it outside and wipe your hands. Your cat is likely trying to tell you something. When a cat urinates outside of its litter box it could be trying to tell you that something’s wrong, it could be angry at you, or it could be sick. Listen to your cat, give it lots of love and see if you can’t figure out why it’s urinating everywhere. If you don’t find the solutions, however, take him or her to the vet immediately as it’s likely there’s an illness involved.

Litter Boxes

Your cat’s natural instinct is to urinate or defecate in a sand like substance and then cover it up. This keeps its scent away from prey or predators that will then know the cat is in the area. This is instinct. That’s why all you have to do is show the cat where to urinate and it will use the box from then on. If your cat is suddenly not going in the litter box, ask yourself when’s the last time you changed the litter? If you don’t change your litter box, your cat will urinate elsewhere. This is usually to tell you that it’s angry at you for not tending to the cat’s needs. A cat will not urinate in a dirty box so change your litter often. A cat will urinate outside the box, too, if you change the litter to a type it doesn’t like, such as a scented kind if you usually use unscented, or vice versa.

What’s Wrong?

Cat’s urinate in strange places, like your countertops, if it’s angry at you. Are you gone for long periods of time, do you not show the cat much attention, or has your behavior changed towards the cat in any way? All of these will cause the cat to urinate in places you’d rather him or her not. So ask yourself what has changed. If your cat is urinating in strange places, it could be because of something you did, not your cat.

Illnesses

Urinary tract infections can also be the cause of your cat urinating in strange places. Your cat may also be sick with something more serious. So if you haven’t changed your behavior, if you give your cat lots of attention and love, and you change your litter box often, your cat may be sick. Take your cat to the vet right away and have him or her checked out. Tell the vet about your cat urinating in strange places and you’ll likely see that the cat was sick all along.

Cat’s usually don’t urinate in strange places unless something is seriously wrong. Cat’s can be temperamental and they will show you if they’re angry with you about something. But they could also be sick so make sure you listen to your cat so you can find out why it’s doing what it’s doing.

Simple Cat Tricks

If you own a cat, you know how independent they can be. Their mentality is much different than that of a dog. Dogs are loyal and have an intense desire to please their masters. Cats, on the other hand, couldn’t care less if you’re pleased with them or not. You’ll never find your cat jumping up and down with his tail wagging when you come home from work. If he feels like spending some time with you, he’ll casually make his way over and grace you with his presence. This is where the challenge is for people who try to teach their feline friend cat tricks. Cats are highly intelligent and they can be trained if they are in the mood. Below are some simple cat tricks that you can try with your pet.

Use What Comes Natural

Since cats are so much more challenging to train than dogs, you should start by training him to incorporate things he already does naturally. Start by teaching your cat to come when you call him. This is fairly easy to do since you should already be using his name whenever you address him. You can train him to come at the call of his name by using his favorite toy, or even his food dish. Hold the item, and say his name. When he comes to you, give him a reward of some kind. If your cat is willing to play along, he will pick it up rather quickly. Cats are intelligent enough to be taught anything they just have to be willing to learn.

Sitting up is another of the cat tricks you can try. If you hold an item over him, he will stand on his hind legs to reach it. When his legs get tired, and he sits back down from the standing position, tell him to sit up. If you do this repeatedly, eventually he will associate the command with sitting up. Consistent repetition is the key to success.

The last on our list of simple cat tricks is roll over. If you scratch your cat’s stomach, he will naturally want to roll over on his back. Again, doing this repeatedly while telling him to roll over will associate the two ideas in his mind. Eventually, when he hears the command, he will roll over onto his back.

These are just a few cat tricks that your cat may or may not be willing to play along with. The important thing to remember is to keep it simple and try to associate it with the things he already enjoys doing.
